A search tool to search multiple search engines simultaneously and present them as one aggregated search results page. Add-on for the most common web browsers.
Pros: ISearch is an add-on for standard web browsers such as Internet Explorer and works by sending out a search to multiple search engines (Yahoo, Google, MSN, AltaVista etc.) at the same time. It then aggregates these results and displays them to the user.
Cons: Since it is an add-on it has a very limited interface. Although searching and its respective aggregating works, it is not clear how the ranking in the aggregated search page works. As such there are websites which will provide a similar feature of aggregating search from multiple (most popular) search engines. There does not seem to be any incentive for using this one over the others. Features such as in-line search, cumulative search etc. would have been really useful and should have been part of the package. An internet search also lists it as spyware so it is not clear what the privacy implications of using this tool are. It didn’t seem to be saving any information about searches conducted but whether or not it communicates to send back information elsewhere could not be determined. An Internet Security Suite like McAfee or Norton tends to not allow it to run normally, one has to override standard settings to get it to run.
Overall: 1 star. Works, but is possibly spyware. Needs further testing to determine that, as such it is recommended that users not download this.
